How long should you withold a payment if you're disputing a credit card charge, and it's taking forever to get settled?

If the dispute is between the merchand and you, then you have to honor your part of the contract with the credit card company (paying on time) or else you will be charged interests and will have a bad credit record. The investigation may take forever but eventually you will win if you know you are right and you will have your money back. It happened to me, took 2-3 months and I got all my money back. They do not refund interests back however so keep that in mind too if you decide to not pay.
