How long will my computer last if I'm very careful?

Computers vary greatly in quality. If you buy the cheapest white box computer you can find than chances are it will break down before long. Durability also depends on the computer’s environment. Dust is bad for computers because it covers components trapping heat in like a blanket; It can clog vents and it can cause fans to fail, If you have noisy power with power spikes this can damage sensitive electronic components. I’ve had PCs I built last 10 years when I used a quality power supply (usually the first thing to go on cheap computers), name brand parts, and lots of ventilation. At work we use HP laptops and replace them every 3 years. Except for batteries most of our laptops are trouble free until they are replaced.

depends if you have the os disks if you do then along time if not then about 1.5 years. to get a longer life out of it try getting Norton 360 and downloading spybot search and destroy it’s free don’t be tricked in to paying for it. if you have os disk re-install windows and partition your drive in at least 3 separate hard disks spaces use the first one for windows and all other programs and then when your pc needs a redo only erase the c drive and keep everything you have or worked on in your pc.

very true about dust i open mine up every 6 months or less and blow it out.

My dad is very cheap and our last computer lasted 7 years, until lightning struck the transformer outside and damaged it. The computer we have now is 3 years old.

I’m reading this on a Laptop that I bought 2004. So my comp is now almost 8 years old. Kinda antique for a computer. But it still works. Companies usually replace hardware after 3 to 5 years.
