How long does it take for an animal to be put up for adoption in the humane society?

I had to give my dogs up to the humane society on wednesday. The lady told me that they had to be spay and neutered and go through a bunch of tests to make sure they were adopted so it would be a while before they were but on the floor. She told me that if they were adoptable I would see them on their website. It’s been four days since and I haven’t seen them on their website. I wasn’t worried that they wouldn’t pass the test before but now I kinda am.

if they got spayed and neutered then i would imagine that they let the dogs rest and heal before performing a bunch of tests on them so i don’t think you have anything to worry about. you can always call them and ask too.

Answer #2

I know the average time is 1 week (7 full days) after a spay/neuter, and the shots.. then they will do a DNA test to determine the breed (which takes 1 day for results), then they go through the testing for adoptability. The local shelter here says it takes atleast 2 weeks before the dogs are listed on their site if that helps :)

Thanks. I feel a lot better now. They were my babies for so long, I hated to have to get rid of them but I had no other choice. I just want to make sure they’re ok.

Answer #4

I hope you checked out to make sure the shelter is no-kill. Although to say that they’re going to check to see if the pets are adoptable makes me think it isn’t. Also you have to remember that many shelters will have times limits. Even if they are adoptable, they’re only kept for so long before they’re put down.

Answer #5

usually it could take a long time you just have to be patient if the animal is there for a year they probably will put the animal down :(
