how long do dogs have to be locked for pregancy to happen.
There isn't a "time limit"...if the dogs tie-up, and then release...the male has ejaculated. When a "breeder" breeds a female to the male, they allow them to tie up several times...this ensures that eggs have been fertilized, and probably makes for more pups...at least in larger breeds.
Have you ever seen a litter of mix-bred pups who don't resemble one another at all?? That's because more than one male mated with the female, and the pups have different sires...the female "tied" with more than one male during the middle week of her heat cycle.

Once dogs lock, they stay locked for varied periods of time. Shortest I have seen in 15 minutes, longest and hour. As long as they lock and the female was not forced to receive the male pregnancy usually occurs. nature is pretty good at this, a female will not accept a male and let him mount until she is ready.

This question isn't making much sense to me. For a woman to get pregnant, the man must ejaculate. Then she will get pregnant, assuming she is healthy and able to bear children.
If this isn't what you're asking, you really need to elaborate.
apparently dogs dont have to tie before she falls pregnant. there are loads of internet sites you can read up on. try them. females can fall pregnant without the tie.
Dogs "lock" when they are mating. For humans, it takes as long as the male ejaculates, which varies for every guy, and it only takes one sperm to fertilize an egg.
I have a dog and only six weeks of pregnacy
