Why are Levis Jeans not good anymore?

Customers Beware, Levis are not the quality brand that they once were.

I recently purchased a pair of Levis jeans from their Covent Garden store in London, I had owned the jeans for exactly 3 months before 2 holes wore through in the crotch of them and the die started fading on the bum where they had come into contact with other surfaces, as jeans will when you sit down in them!

Over the past decade Levis have been the only brand of jeans that I have purchased as I have always had great experiences with them, until now. I have never had a problem with a single pair of Levis Jeans until this pair I recently purchased, nothing went wrong with any of other jeans within 2 years of buying them let alone a couple of months.

Due to this I thought I’ll simply return them and they will replace them, Levis is a premium quality brand that stands behind their products (the reason I buy them!) HOW WRONG I WAS!

I took the jeans into the store I purchased them from and spoke with Chris the Manager, who informed me that the holes were the result of ‘excessive wear’. I explained to him that 1) they are only 3 months old, 2) I only wear them on the weekends as I work in the city and wear a suit to work every day, and 3) I am the only person who wears these jeans, that cannot be excessive wear. He then told me, regardless of this he’s going with his judgement that it’s from excessive wear…?

I tried explaining to him that people buy Levis for their supposed quality and durability, hence the reason you pay a premium for them, you could pay £10 for a pair of jeans at Primark and holes would not wear through here, nor fade all over the bum like these, and if they did Primark would probably replace them as well! I asked Chris if he would be satisfied if he purchased a pair of Levis jeans for £85 and holes wore through and the material faded within a couple of months, he would not answer and kept labouring his point, ‘it looks like excessive wear, it’s not a manufacturers fault, I can’t help you’. A manufactures fault it is, these Levis jeans have been made with low grade material which the company does not stand behind and sold under the pretence that it’s high quality.

LEVIS seem to have have turned into another money hungry corporate that have sacrificed the quality of their products by using cheap material in order to lower their own costs and raise profit margins. Levis are now selling sub standard quality jeans today at a premium today under the false guarantee of quality that the Levis Jeans of yesteryear had.

For the sake of this guys short-sightedness, Levis have lost a lifetime customer. What’s more, not only were Levi’s the only Jeans that I would by, I only ever purchased them from his shop.

Are Levis cool Are Levis the best jeans How long should Levis last Are Levis good Levis quality

Your phrase right here answers it all: “LEVIS seem to have have turned into another money hungry corporate that have sacrificed the quality of their products by using cheap material in order to lower their own costs and raise profit margins” When demands increase, quality decreases - simply put. Are Levis cool? I don’t place labels on brand names - they’re just jeans - but, they should be durable enough to last longer than three months … seeing as they are supposed to be “quality”.

Answer #2

No matter what brand, if pants cost more than 15€ and are worn through within three months, then I won’t buy that brand again. Period.

There are shops over here that will sell a pair of Jeans for 9€99ct and those usually last half a year. (though they aren’t cool). Other than that I wear “lands end” jeans, they are usually between 35 and 70 € and they last years on me.

As for your friend Chris… If I were you, I’d write to the Levis headquarters and tell them your story. And ask them whether that shop sells real Levis and making crap is the new company policy or whether that guy sells counterfeits in his shop.

I have never liked Levis much. All the pairs I have tried fit to tight on me, and I like loose jeans. But…I have had a lot of trouble finding jeans that DON’T wear out in a few months, and that are long enough for me. 36” length is hard to find in your average store. After cycling through a lot of in store brands and cheap jeans for under $20, and having to replace them every 2-3 months - I finally settled with Carhartts. The ones I like are about $35 to $40. They come in a full 36” long and last me over a year a pair, as “good” jeans. I am kinda hard on them tho. At any given time I only own 2 pairs of “good” jeans so each pair gets a lot of wear.

After all my search I have decided I will NEVER buy anything made by Faded Glory again tho. Not just because of their poor quality jeans, but poor quality everything. Jeans, shirts, shoes, etc. All their products start falling apart in under 3 months.

It depends what type of Levis. Levis sell their upscale versions at major department stores like Macy’s, their online store and at their own stores. The lower quality denim made in China Levis are sold at Wal-Mart and Target and have their own different numbers and designs. Like, you will not find 501 classics at Wal-Mart. The made in the USA Levis and in all different categories cost $198 at their website and at their stores and those are upscale.
