In the U.S. you are a legal adult at the age of 18. You can move out anytime you please now. However, being a mom myself I would be upset if my children didn’t talk to me first. On the other hand, I moved out when I was 19 but I did warn my parents that I was moving in with my boyfriend. They weren’t happy and I probably should have listened to them because it didn’t work out. So, I’ll say this. If you are moving out because you and your parents aren’t getting along that good but it is not an abusive situation on either part, then why? Why would you want to move out and be stuck paying a bunch of money to find that it really isn’t what you wanted or had planned. If it is just because you want your freedon then you need to sit down and talk it over with your parents and see if you can’t come to some amicable agreement where both sides benefit. Honestly, my curfew, even when I was home visiting was 12 sharp. My parents would stay up and worry about me and so it was necessary for me to come home at that time so that they could get some worrifree sleep so that they could go to work the following morning. Trust me living on your own is not all of what you want it to be. Sometimes the people that you think are your friends actually end up screwing you over when you are on your own and your parents won’t EVER do that. My father didn’t want me to pay him rent so I took them out to eat 3 times a week because we worked 11 to 12 hour days. So, like I said even though it’s easier said than done, talk to your parents and come up with some type of agreement and if you can’t ,then find a place relatively inexpensive and move out BY YOURSELF. Roomates suck!

If you’re 18 in the US then you are a legal adult & can do what you like, eg, move out, etc.
