Learning Hungarian

I have family over in Hungary, and I’d like to be able to talk to them when I go over every year. What’s the best way to learn this language? Is there any programs I can go on…?

I don’t know about any programs, but the easiest way (for most people) to learn a langauge is to learn a few words that you need for a sentence, like “the”, “is” etc. first, then try to practice with someone who already speaks the language, so they can help you out and you can get used to having conversations. its tough but possible to do yourself. get some books for beginners, with grammar explained simply if possible, learn lots of vocabulary. you will be understanding things before you know it! getting the grammar right is tricky but once you get started you will realise what a beautiful (and difficult!) language hungarian is. getting used to hearing it - I have little access to other speakers so I watch videos and listen to music instead - youtube is great for this! try my favourite band Karpatia, some of their songs are quite basic to translate and listening can only help your pronunciation. good luck!!!
