Would Korean reunification be a good thing?

Today is the 20th anniversary of Germany’s reunification. Reunification overall has been good for Germany, but even today there are differences between the former East and West in areas like unemployment and education. It has been a long, slow process. The gap between North and South Korea is much, much bigger. Do you think reunification would be good for the Koreas, or are they simply too different now to make it work? Would reunification be a burden for the South? Do you think it will ever happen at all?

Answer #1

Reunification would benefit North Korean considering they are heading towards being one of the poorest ‘countries’ in the world. South Korea’s economic is increasing, so I’m not sure if financially the South Korean government would want to merge as one nation…..Based on the victims of war etc and etc, I think it would bring closure to families who may not have seen their loved one as they are unable to ‘cross’ the border without legal ramifications. Reunification would bring lost families together and I think that is always a good thing.

If it was carefully done. The people in the north are starving. Look for some actin when the old dictator in the north kicks the bucket. His kids are video game nuts so you can’t count on the north lasting too long.
