What would be a good keyboard (made by Yamaha) for a 13 year old to have?

I was looking at this keyboard online and my dad had the book with the price and it was $4,000+ so yeah. There was no way I was getting that until, I was able to learn the keys, be able to actually play songs. So what are some affordable (budget $250 and below) keyboards I could get.

Answer #1

I’m not familiar with keyboards. But I suggest you get a used one. Try a pawnshop, you can usually get really good deals at pawnshops. But test it before you buy it.

Answer #2

No, thank you. My dad is gonna buy me a new one, and it’s $499.99. Thanks for your help though.

Answer #3

i am niether familiar nor intrested in keyboards

Answer #4

This is difficult, are you taking lessons or are you just playing by yourself? Yamaha is already a good keyboard brand, but $250 is going a bit low in my opinion. With keyboards I would say don’t go lower than R5000 (in your currency that is probably around 800 - $1000 and that should give you a reasonable one. Also what happens if you go too cheap with any keyboard is that you compromise on sound as well as the keys aren’t as good. I’m not sure about the various makes, your best bet would be to look at Yamaha’s range of keyboards and to discuss it with a Yamaha broker.

Answer #5

You may not get a Yamaha one for that cheap, but whatever one you do get, you MUST make sure it’s got full sized keys. Some keyboards have keys slightly smaller than a piano, which will just stuff up your playing, and you’ll end up only being able to play on your keyboard because your hand positions and techniques aren’t the right size for a piano or other keyboards. It must must must have full sized keys. Anything without full sized is actually not allowed to be considered a proper keyboard or electric piano, it’s really just a toy. It would be a great bonus if the keys were weighted too. If it has weighted keys, then you can be pretty sure that they are full sized too.

Now, are you learning how to play the keyboard or the piano? They look the same but are actually played completely different. Like, take a guitar and a violin for example. Both have strings, the same shaped body… but they are 2 completely different techniques and 2 completely different sounds. Same with keyboard and piano.

- Source: My mother is a pianist and a piano teacher. She’s pretty much the guru haha.

Answer #6

Make sure the keys are full sized!! I don’t want to be a nag, but it’s very important!

Answer #7

Well then don’t answer the question -.-

Answer #8

Agree with your mother. I take lessons for both and it’s not the same instrument at all.

Answer #9

Answer #10
