Why is it that it's not all that fun to watch scary movies alone, but it's wicked fun to watch them with a group of friends?

In my opinion watching scary movies and watching comidies are more fun with another person or group of people. When theres other people there you tend to read off of their reactions as well as yours…if your with a group whose laughing at something, you’ll tend to laugh out loud yourself. If your with a group watching a scary movie and everyone else is scared, we have a tendancy to feed of their emotions as well as our own. Or sometimes because in a group you are less scared and can laugh at the overy silly and ridiculous parts of scary movies.

I think because there’s someone to feel the anticipation with. You have someone to shriek with in the exciting parts, guess whats going to happen next, hold on to each other. When your alone, you feel concious and it isnt as exciting. At least thats how it is with me.

A lot of times, scary movies are scarier when watched alone (in the dark)… scarier equals more fun the way I see it.

However, it is fun when you have someone to watch it with, because there is more socializing … “Eek, did you see that!” … “I’m never going in the basement again!”, etc… it kind of makes it more interesting.

To me, both are fun… but I guess it depends on the person.

I agree that it’s fun to watch scary movies with a group of friends and scary by yourself. In my case I believe it’s because the movie seems kind of rediculous when you’re with a group of people you also feel safe because there’s others to protect one another. Your mind doesn’t run as wild with others because they are sometimes commenting on things that are just stupidly scary and when you’re by yourself you’re alone in the dark and your thoughts run wild with all these situations that will probably never happen, but there’s nothing to distract you from those thoughts except the scary movie.

Because when you watch scary movies alone, you are genuinely scared at the bits that scare you. If you are with other people, you’ll be laughing- at each other and at the movie. You’ll be scared but in a fun way and you’ll have other people’s reactions to influence you.
