Is there a way to purchase a ticket and not know a departure date?

I am expecting a child in a few weeks and, of course, that date is never definite. My child’s father is in New York and he’ll need to be here for the birth in North Carolina. Is there a way to purchase an open-ended ticket, one way, the day of delivery? If so, where can one be purchased and about how much will it cost? THANKS!!

You have to pick a departure date, and then you can change it, usually when I’ve traveled, the fee for changes is $100 but it depends on the airline. For purchase, I’d recommend any of the large travel websites, such as expedia.com, sidestep.com, travelocity.com, etc.

If you fly Jetblue, the change fee is considerably lower… around $5 or so. However, if you change close to the date, the fare differrence is what will hit you for any airline.
