is my bird alright?

okay so this is probably nothing but I love my bird so much I just wanna make sure he is okay. alright so he is a cockatiel named bananas, and I just came back from march break and picked him up at the house of the girl that I leave him with for vacation. she’s very nice and good with birds so I do not blame any of this on her. when I picked him up I noticed that on both of his feet on the bottom of his longest toe the skin looked blistered and somewhat purple. he was also making strange noises that he hadn’t made before that are hard to describe but were very soft and kind of sounded like a crow. he was in a room with at least four other birds. one of the birds had been found outside(the girl was taking care of him) and had what appeared to be frostbite on one of his whole feet and was beginning to chew it of(my father is a doctor and said that the foot was dead and it didn’t hurt:in fact it will probably just fall off anyways”) okay so the blisters on my birds feet have similar coloring to what the soon to be one footed birds looked like. I know im being paranoid I just want to make sure. and you have any idea why his feet could have been blistered please post. thanks!

First off, I love that name Bananas :) and I have cockatiels too, which live with my parents. Bananas’ toe may have been caught in a toy or something, and he was probably stuck there for quite some time. Cockatiels and other parrots need supervision with toys, as they can get their feet or toes caught in them. Some birds have to get their toe(s) amputated because of this.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the different sounds he make, as he’s probably picked it up from the other birds he was with. My cockatiels stayed with a girl who takes care of birds once before too, when my family went off for a vacation. When we got them back, our chatty cockatiel apparently added new sounds to his vocal repertoire :)

But anyway, I’m not too sure if you should continue letting this girl take care of Bananas. Finding a bird outside that got frostbite that was supposedly under her care does NOT sound good at all. And most importantly, I think you should get your pet to a vet as soon as possible, before the blister turns into something else or gets infected. Good luck!

All though they are completley differnet I had two budgies called Daffodill and Bluebell and Dadffodill got the foot thing there’s not much point in going to the vets unless you want to just make sure but if you go to your nearest pet shop and expplian the situation they wil giv you a liquid thing to put on the feet but good luck with the pain when they bite you when they are getting the bitting gets worser! lol good luck hope she gets well soon xx

Answer #3

ok first thing take him or her to the vet have them make sure he is breathing and you could too trust me I had this happen to me to he should be ok

Answer #4

I’d have the Vet check his feet…this might not have anything to do with frostbite…since he was around other birds, maybe he caught something…a fungus or something…
