Is Martial Arts forbidden in the Bible?

I was just wondering about something that happened when I was in high school…I just came home from a Taekwondo class and went to a bible study…when they asked me where I came from I said Taekwondo Practice. They start shaking their heads and said..

“Umm Yana my child listen…martial arts uses oriental powers like magic and God does not like occultism.”

I told them that it wasn’t magic ..I mean I know some south east asian martial arts that needs extreme meditation and rituals to grow strong and I understand where they are coming from. But I told them taekwondo is purely technical and a physical activity like a sport but ofcourse to me personally it’s an art you have to use your heart ad well as your body when performing it.

She told me:

“I baptised this man who used to be a martial arts athlete and he lost all his martial arts skill after that”.

You gotta be kidding me.

I went home took my bible and unbelievably planned to read the whole bible.I got half way through the old testament then fell asleep. But all through my reading I realised…what the what the hades was going on…they were soldiers that went to war.And God gave his blessings and every soldier needs to know a thing or two in unarmed combat as we all know.

So is it wrong for me to practice martial arts according to the bible?

Martial arts is more than a defense or fighting style. It’s a a form of art (hence the title ‘martial arts’) Physical art. God gave us our body as a vessel for His spirit. We need to look after, protect, and help our body to grow healthily. Martial Arts is a great way to stay healthy, be active, know yourself, and, if someone tries to bring harm to your body, you can defend it.

Another good one is Parkour. People call it “physical graffiti” not because it’s vandalism but because it’s an abstract physical art. You’re getting through your environment using only your own capabilities.

If God wants to love and be with us and gave us a body to do so, don’t you think we should keep it in good condition. And to take it a step further, don’t you think we should know our body; the body God gave us?

Do what you love, love what you do.

Well, I’d pretty much change church if I were you. Cause, seriously, all she said was just a pure lie. Is it possible for a human to lose his skills after being baptized? I seriously don’t think God ever takes away your knowledge of whatever it is you’ve learned. Which is why, you may later in your life even find great religious people who know the effects of drugs and etc out of pure experience…bottom line is, we don’t forget anything we’ve done before we get born again.

As for martial arts. It’s a sport like any other, the sin that people associate with martial arts is the possibility of a martial artist using martial arts in a situation where it is not called for. Maybe killing another human being with a fatal blow, or something of the sort, that would be a sin. But sparring with your taekwando classmates is no sin. For pete’s sake, it’s actually good! You heighten your senses and you keep your body fit, and you get a healthy competitive nature and view of the world.

Lol, God didn’t send Jacob to hell for fighting an angel did he? Haha, that one still amazes me ^^

You know the apostle Peter right? he was one the the disiples of Jesus Christ.

Peter walked around with a sword. now, if he had a sword wouldn’t you think he had swordsman training? Swordsmanship is a martial art. therefore martial arts isn’t forbidden

Answer #4

What the heck kind of scare-tactics church do you attend..? No. It is not against the Bible.

Answer #5

Lol I’d change churches if you were you..

There’s nothing wrong with being able to defend yourself.

And that part were she told about the man who lost all his martial arts skills.. That a lie.

She’s just trying to scare her scare her veiws on you.

I’d encourage you to keep reading the bible for yourself so that you won’t let people like this fool you.

Look, the Bible forbids the eating of shellfish, and regulates how goat milk should be prepared. Even if it did prohibit martial arts (which it doesn’t), you could just ignore it the same way you probably ignore the 10,000 other silly rules it contains.

Answer #7

I have not seen it in the bible but, it should not be. I mean it really is a form of art just in the fighting way. If I was you I would not worry about it and keep studying your TaeKwondo.

Answer #8

Umm Yana my child listen…martial arts uses oriental powers like magic and God does not like occultism.

Hah… wow your church is stupid… and you’ve got a racist pastor too… WHY are you still going there?

Martial Arts uses magic? Most rational people just call it ‘’muscle coordination’’
