Is it cruel to make dolphins perform jumps at marine world?

Do you think it’s cruel to make dolphins perform tricks & things at a park or zoo like marine world? We saw this dolphin perform some amazing tricks at marine world, it was my first time seeing a performance like this. The kids thought it was amazing, and I was impressed as well. However, the environmentalist in me says that this might not be a great thing, that somehow, if we knew what the dolphins were saying to us, we wouldn’t make them perform flips & jumps.

Is it cruelty to dolphins? I’m not sure, but I will say that the dolphins did seem to be having fun, and display a certain sense of humor about the whole thing.

Well, if they don’t like it, they get revenge when they have the dolphins soak the audience LOL. We loved the show too, but I couldn’t help but notice how small the tanks were. And I spent a moment sharing with my kids the fact that the “Shamu’s” fin on top (can’t remember the name of it) curls over in captivity. It’s a mystery so they say, but I think it has to do with being cooped up in a small tank.

I think they just LOVE showing off and getting all the attention………Plus they seem to enjoy learning……….

Interestingly I saw a similar show in Seaworld in Florida a few months ago and came away saying the same thing.

What I was left with was that the animals looked happy. They try to keep it to 2 shows per day per exhibit.

For the size of the animals, the tanks are small. Which is akin to living in a studio apartment instead of a modern three bedroom house.

ok i have seen dolphins in the ocean and they do the same things that the captive ones do. they were jumping and flipping in front of the cruise ship and also along side. they were preforming for us i guess. so i guess the preformance at these theme parks are like exercise i guess
