What's the most expensive iPod?

What is the most expensive IPod? My Mom is going to spend $400 on me for Christmas, and I want an IPod. So what is the most expensive. I am just curious. it can be over $400. Just please let me know, also what IPod’s should I not get? Thanks

All of the iPod range is within your Mum’s price range. So, the question then becomes what do you want out of your iPod…

Personally, if I could get any iPod I would get the 16Gb iPod Touch. Large watchable screen and touch-screen interface much like the iPhone. But, only holds 16Gb - for just music, that should be more than enough, but if you want to keep movies on there too, you’ll run out of space after a while. Not a problem if you just keep swapping the movies over on your computer, but still…

So, spacewise, the iPod Classic is better, but there is a catch - it looks pretty much the same as your old-style iPod, and uses a hard drive disk instead of flash memory. The disadvantage of hard drive disks are that they are moving parts, so if you drop it, its more likely to get damaged. But its something almost all iPods up until now have had. In my opinion, the iPod Classic looks boring - I personally would prefer a hard drive based iPod touch - all the space with all the big screen and coolness.

And with the new iPod Nano, I can’t think why anyone would want to get an iPod shuffle anymore - the iPod Nano does so much more (including playing movies), and is a small handy size. I would avoid an iPod Shuffle completely if you can.

The most expensive model is the 16 GB iPod Touch at $399. If watching videos on your iPod is your thing than the big screen size of the iPod Touch will make viewing better. The iPod Touch is flash based so in size they max out at 16 GB.

The iPod Classic with an 80 GB hard disk is $249 and with 160 GB is $349. While the screen isn’t as big for watching videos the hard disk allows you to store a lot more of them.

Even the latest generation of iPod Nano can now show video though like the Touch is flash based. The 8GB Nano is $199. If you find the Classic and Touch too bulky (I do) than the Nano is an alternative.

With an iPod Touch, you don’t have to watch videos to listen to music. You choose what you want to do at the menu - listen to music, or watch videos, and it will take you to a list of whatever one you choose. All iPods except for the iPod Shuffle have something called “Cover Flow” which basically will show you your music my its album cover (may act similar for the videos - not sure), but you can also list it by other means. With the new iPod interface, its easy to learn how to work them, and with the iPod Touch, you touch the screen to select the music or video that you want - no learning how to work the scroll wheel.

How much music or videos your iPod holds depends on the amount of space/storage, measured in Mb or Gb - the bigger the number, the more it can hold. So, for example the iPod Nano can hold a maximum of 8Gb - thats roughly 2,000 songs. The iPod Touch maxes out at 16Gb - thats almost 4,000 songs (depending on song size). But the iPod Classic has either 80Gb or 160Gb - for the 160Gb, thats nearly 40,000 songs… probably far more music than you’d ever want! Note that these amounts are if you have no photos or videos on the iPod - just songs.

To put music on your iPod, you use iTunes which should come with it, or can be downloaded for free. To get music, you either buy the songs (or videos) off iTunes, or you download them using other programs then import them to iTunes (which is not really legal).

If you want the most fancy looking iPod, I’d say go with the iPod Touch - check out the Apple website to get a good idea of what they’re like.

Okay thanks! I checked it out, and I am interested in the IPod touch. The black one… Well thanks again guys! You both helped!

So if I get the Ipod Touch, do I have to watch videos to listen to the music, or what your saying is that I can switch to like the “music department” on my Ipod touch and it has a list of the music I put on there?

Hmmm… so which ones hold the most music? I am more into music than videos, but videos are cool too, I just want a nice one. My Mom said she would spend $400 on me, $200 on the IPod and the rest on whatever. But I dont care to have anything else really, I just want a really nice IPod, that plays music, looks fancy, and yeah. I dont know how to work them though.. what do you do, just download music off the computer?? Does it cost money?

I have a 1st generation nano but to tell the truth I don’t really care for the squat 3rd generation nano. The new one doesn’t slip into your pocket as easily. Prior to my Nano I owned two Minis.

I’m not big on watching videos on an iPod. I can watch video on my PDA and my PSP. The PSP screen is much better than the screen on the new Nano. I haven’t seen the iPod touch play movies in person so I can’t really compare the two.

I used to make fun of the shuffle but I’ll probably ask for one for the holidays. The place where I use my iPod the most is at the gym. Having a shuffle filled with just my workout tunes would be great.

Not a problem - glad to have helped! :)

Like at school, during studyhall, and stuff people always listen to their mp3 players and Ipods, and I would like to too!
