How does someone plead insanity?

If you plead insanity and are proven insane, do you still get aressted or do they send you to a psychiatrist or a mental instatution? How does some plead to insanity?

most likely they would send you to an institution.

You could plead to insanity if you were taking certain meds that impairs judgement or you went through some life crisis at the time…
