Improving live performace (Beginner)

So, I went to an open-mic a month ago, A 7 year old acapella did better than me, then again he was pretty good… besides that. Im learning how to sing, play guitar pretty well. Most of my “band mates” never end up coming to open mic, their useless. Most can’t get a chord progression correct.

Well, any advise on the playing live part, not the bandmates, I’ll handle that.

Btw, it’s usually just a rhythm guitarist and I playing.

Answer #1

Keep practicing. That’s the most important thing. Don’t perform the song at the open mic until you are good at it. It won’t help your confidence if you get up on stage and can’t play the song well and turn the audience off. With practice you will see yourself getting better and better. And open mics are great ways to get experience on stage. As far as improving your stage presence, try practicing in front of a mirror or film your practice and watch and critique your performance.

Best of luck to you!

Answer #2

Uhm honestly don’t think about it too much…

(I play guitar + sing and I dance as well)

and for me I always find things go that much more smoother when I’m not really focusing or stressing on it, and I just go out and try to have fun…

hope this helps =]
