I want to move to America

Hi, Ok, I am 16, I am not a parent-less kid, I actually have 2 parents who love me very much. And 2 years ago this October my dad had the chance to move to San Jose, California and my mam eventually said no, but then about 4 months ago he got another offer to Melbourne, Austrailia and she wanted my dad to go get the info. If it wasnt for the fact the offer wasnt right for my dad we would be living with the kangaroos right now!

These so called “obstacles” that were in the way for California dissapeared when my mam wanted to move somewhere (she doesnt like america but loves austrailia)

I dont like my life here in England, not a great social life, spend most my time indoors on the computer, hate my school life, and would love the chance to a new start, a new life, a new me in California.

So I got this crazy idea in my head of moving by myself but I could never afford a place of my own. But if I wait til later than I will never experience the american high school that is supposed to be all that.

What would you guys do? I am thinking about getting adopted to another family over there but why would I be allowed? I have parents I am not poor but I hate my life at the minute. I am so unhappy, and my parents dont want to know! They only want to talk about things they want to hear, as soon as I mention America its shut up were not going.

I really need advice as I want to be in California so badly. Start Fresh! Any ideas on persuading my parents or advice on how to get over now?

Possibly check around for a student exchange program as a possibility - ignore the America-Bashers, definitely not true…I wish you the best !!

When I was your age, I also wanted my parents to move to america so I could go to a really cool high school, go to prom, be a beauty queen, watch baseball games eating hot dogs & waving huge hands around etc etc, I still love the cars, with their cool sounding V8 engines, and all the crome, and those big kenworth trucks !It does look really fun, and we see it in all the films, but you have to try to imagine, life is the same whereever you are in the world, there are still bullys at the schools, you still have to get good grades to get a good job, and if you dont, you could end up in a really horrible part, where there are shootings & stabbings & drugs etc.(we are a lot safer in the UK, as long as you dont live in Peckham or somewhere!) It does still rain (not as much)& the food isnt as good, the tele is really cheesey too, and everyone is very vain. But, I’m 36 now, with kids of my own, and I STILL would love to live there! Its just not that simple to get over there & a whole lot of hassle & money to sort it. What I suggest you do is, keep the dream alive, finish school, get a job, get saving, and when you turn 18 and you are you’re own boss, then go on something I wish I’d done when I was given the chance (but I got scared) go to ‘Camp America’ where you work at one of the many childrens camps through the summer (their parents send them away for weeks at a time to these camps in the summer holidays) they pay you’re flight, and a bit each week for pocket money, you get free food & stay, and if you have some savings in the bank, you can travel around america for a bit afterwards!!?? God I wish I’d done that and met a bloke and settled down over there!!!

I really don’t know what to say…u’d really have to think about being adopted to a family before you really start to think…I would wait ‘til college…h.s hear probably is not that big of a thing..seriously…but I would definatly wait til college and you could go to an American college…but thats just me…

Welcome to Fun Advice!

I’m not familiar with high schools in England, but I would imagine there isn’t much difference between England’s and America’s.

I’d suggest that you wait until you’ve finished high school in England. Moving to the U.S. to go to college would be a much better way to go.

It’s easy to think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence/sea, but it really is about one’s attitude. You can make it in England and then when the time and circumstances are right, move to the U.S.

America is NOT as good as you think, in fact it would most likely be worst, California is sort of a pool of hate and its EXTREMELY expensive to live there now. (no offense Cali!) Anyways, there must be something you don’t like about yourself, therefor you dont really communicate with people at school, so instead you stay in most of the time, all I can say is try to talk to people, get a great friend to help you out.

I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but this sounds exactly like how I was for a bit, I got fat from playing games too much, and was afraid of people, then I started working out and my self confidence went through the roof, I’ve always had a bunch of friends though and I was always kinda popular via my crazy antics of confusing teachers in class and getting kicked out all the time. What I’m saying is, if there IS something about you that you don’t like, try to fix it. And if moving is what you REALLY want you could maybe do foreign exchange, I’m not sure how that works though.

Answer #10

well im getting councelling atm my lifes that bad im at a place called thorneywood in nottingham I hate it here, and I’ve always wanted to experience the american life. I dont go school atm because it just gets me depressed I’ve attempted suicide over it all how can you do one of those exchange things? how does it work? my parents said they wouldnt be able to get into america nevermind live there because we’ve got decent money now, but apparently they dont let you in their country if you havnt got the qualifications to do a job that they actually need you for :/

Answer #11

I know how you feel! at the moment my heart is set on Los Angeles! I too am 16 and in my last year at school and oh my god am I having a really rough time. I hate it! the thought of growing up in England really worries me and makes me feel sick to begin with its run by a bunch of lunatics and they are letting more foreigners into the country than I dont know what! I’d like to chat to you more! theres so much involved in moving to the USA but I am clueless!!! would be nice to talk and share thoughts and ideas. Its your life, you live it! xx

Answer #12

That’s the same with me, but I only live with my father. I’m 15 and I want to audition for disney channel and start a new life over there. My life here is unbelieveable messed up.

Answer #13

hey I would suggest that you be a foreign exchange student first and see how you like it. california is nice but really expensive. you get more for your money in other places. if you like warm weather try texas or florida. good luck!
