I want to be a psychiatrist, is that wrong?

I know I’m still 13 but I was thinkin about what I want to be in the future today, and I would love to be a psychiatrist, here people’s problems and make them feel better, etc. my cousin is already in college and he’s studying the same thing, I can’t ask him (don’t ask why) any way, here in saudi arabia, people really need this job! and at the same time they never engourage me, they just keep telling me, oooh you’re going to read our minds and make us walk while were sleeping (what they think about this job is wrong), and they keep telling me that here in saudi arabia ONLY CRAZY PEOPLE will come to me, like the people who want to kill theirselves or the people who are like crazy in their minds! they can kill you while you’re talkin’ to them!! they don’t just come and tell their feelings!,etc. and I really want to help them no matter what they are and who they are! they’re human and they have the right to not be crazy! I know it’s hard but I really like it! should I become I psychiatrist or at least give it a try?? am I wrong in making saudi people better even if I’M not completly saudi? if so, why is it wrong?? if they become better they won’t make problems everywhere they travel!! people will change their negetive idea into positive about saudi’s! isn’t that nice? isn’t it a good idea to make the reationships between saudi arabia and other countries better and make peace in all countries? being a psychiatrist can change all this!! it can change the whole world if you’re good at it!! am I wrong in thinking this way?!!!

If you’re in a country that doesnt have a lot of mental health care, people could be right… you will only be dealing with people who are completely disabled by their mental illnesses… some of the time this will include people who are violent… you have to be aware of these realities and be prepared, however, who needs more care than these people? more often than not in countries where mental health isnt widely understood it is these disabled people who are mistreated and abused, and if you want to help them I think it is an amazing thing… You have to be prepared for the negative stereotypes and reactions you will get, and you have to go to medical school before you can actually become a psychiatrist (so it is a lot of years in a difficult field) but you seem to genuinely care about people, so it may be worth it…

I want to become a psychiatrist too! I completely understand you, my dad suffered from schizophrenia and even before I knew this was why he acted the way he did I’ve always had a passion to help people overcome their mental health issues so they can be their true self. You seem so empathetic, caring and intelligent, the perfect person who could really make a good doctor and psychiatrist and really make a difference to the world. Keep it up! When you get to apply for medicine t be a psychiatrist, you will need to show them this passion. Go for it and good luck! I’m not sure about the system in saudi arabia, but here in the uk you have to go through med school, then specialise in psychiatry for 6 years which takes a long time but you would have started working half way through the training and before you specialise. Go for your dream!

ofcourse its not wrong

Well it all depends. Do you know who the father of psychiatry was? It was Freud. Do you know how he came about to create psychiatry? He was in love with his 13 year old cousin and made love to her. She had such a traumatic experience she developed psychosis from it and he spent his life trying to find a way to explain what happened and try and help her from being crazy. I have the answer. Don’t be a pedophile and rape little girls and it wont happen. Now spending your life trying to justify it will never make it right. So do you really want to be a psychiatrist?
