I think I'm anemic?

I have ALL of the symptoms for anemia, and I’m really scared I have it. I am extremely pale, I get abdominal pain, I have little bouts where I have difficulty breathing(and its not athsma..), I am extremely moody and irritable, Trouble breathing when exercising or simply WALKING(which disturbs me..I am NOT overweight btw), weight loss(I weighed 120 now I weigh 110). My mom is taking me for blood tests but I’m very scared of needles. Any words of encouragment? Anyone who is anemic who got blood tests and can tell me what its like? Btw I am 14.

having blood drawn isnt too bad. the only tip I can give you is to look away while they are doing it. it seems like it hurts more if you are looking.

Answer #2

Well I’m not anemic, but my mom is. She gets these iron tablets from her doctor. But you really need to get diagnosed first. Don’t worry about the blood test, it gets quickly done and it’s just a little sting. You’ll be fine!

Well from what you are saying I am hoping that it is just anemia and nothing worse. It does sound a lot like it though. Keep taking your vitamins, even if it’s nothing, and definitely try and get something more. Just tell your mom to buy the straight iron pills available at any drug store. They are not dangerous for you as long as you don’t take more than is suggested on the bottle. Also, when you start taking iron pills, don’t be alarmed when you start peeing bright yellow or orange. That’s normal.

well im anemic I’ve been anemic for about 2 years and it sucks bad but I mean you get use to it. you sound pretty anemic to me and you should really gain up courage to get your blood drawn I mean its not that bad. I use to be like you afraid of needles but really it only feels like a pinch. think of a guy you like or something good and look away trust me its NOT that bad. being anemic takes patience and it pisses me off when I can’t run at pe or when I get out of breath for everything. moodiness also always kicks in and its just a hassle.. I suggest you start takin iron pills everyday to get better. also your period gets really heavy and you get it for longg… hope this helpedd :]

Well it’s nothing really. I have been anemic for years. I was even anemic throughout my pregnancy, and it didn’t affect me or the baby. You already sound like you are pretty anemic, so if you don’t want to have blood drawn just start taking iron pills. Nothing too strong, just the kind you can buy in the stores. Or even just take Flinstones vitamins (don’t scoff, my doc suggested it when I couldn’t swallow pills due to nausea). Eat plenty of iron filled foods like meat, beans, potato, fish, etc. Anemia isn’t the end of the world if you notice it and take steps to work against it. I personally have no care to make it better or worse, I just live my life as is. It’s bad enough I have RA and have to avoid MANY things.

Life with anemia is really a task. You have to cope with being tired all the time, bruising very easily, and moodiness. Just to name a few things. So, it would be best to have the tests done, and that may be something you will have to get used to for awhile. They don’t hurt, just a little sting or pinch. Try to eat a light meal beforehand, but don’t overdo it.

I already do take Flinstone vitamins, they don’t do much. I’m chronically ill with colds or bugs.. my mom is looking into better vitamins like viamin C & D and iron vitamins. But I cannot avoid the blood tests, we have to make sure it’s anemia after all.. not something more serious.
