Some activities to do at home with my 6 month old boy?

Okay so I just lost my job and we’re home all day together-which we pretty much have been ever since he was born[I only worked for one wk] But I want to interact with him more-I have the excer-saucer, high chair, play pin, swing, blah blah… I just want to know some fun things we can do together other than just read to him or show him outside-we take walks 2-3 times around the block every day as it is. I just feel like I’m always setting him in one of his toys and doing my own thing. I feel like I am neglecting him… HELP!!! =]

Being a first time mom…I’ve ran this senario through my head plenty of times…am I stimulating my child enough or too much?!!! The answer is truly different for each baby…because every baby reacts differently to each stimulant (whether it be taking a walk or letting him/her have floor time by him/herself with a watchful eye of course!). Here are some ideas for you to try: Tummy time is always a great way to help your child build muscle strength and coordination (lying your child face down on the floor allowing him/her to lift him/herself up and playing with some toys that lye in front of them). If your baby is strong enough and you have a walker or saucer place him in there while you get some house work down or pay the bills and let him watch you (most babies love to observe, they can do this all day if they wanted to). Maybe try letting him watch TV…my son loves to watch Barney or any colorful cartoon. Parks (depending upon the weather) are always a great way to get some fresh air and let him check out other kids and his outside surroundings. Continue to go for walks if he likes them and use all your baby gear you have. It sounds to me like you’re doing the right thing…maybe you just are getting bored or worried that doing the same thing over and over is a bad thing…which is is NOT! Babies need a schedule to follow, it makes the world around them easier to cope with and follow. So keep on what your doing…just add something new here and there to make it more enjoyable for you as well.

Usually infant development is the most important part of their lives as they have the most brain activity occuring and it is also a prime time for neural development. Try incorporating sounds, touch, and color into the same activity as this will help neural development in parts of the brain. Try interacting with him with a bunch of soft toys or roll a ball towards him while talking and encouraging him.
