Making statement clothing is a lot easier then we think. I guess we just assume that it is difficult and that is why there are pattern company’s making the big bucks. In reality a basic skirt, dress, tank, and blouse is pretty easy. We all have them in our closet. Pull one out and look at the different parts that make it up. they all share the same parts: front, back, sleeve, waistband, etc… If your good at seam ripping, take the seams out and press each piece flat, trace on to tissue paper or what ever you have. Heck I had to tape a bunch of printer paper together once so I could make a pattern out of my favorite sun dress. Changing the fabric, adding buttons, and other embellishments, changes the whole design. Or take the design of one item and add it to another. Just remember to add a basic 5/8” seam allowance. Study the other paper patterns you have. You will figure it out real quick.

As someone that is not really in to the “Gothic” look per say, I do like clothing that is basic folk, renaissance, etc. I have found that many of the free dress, skirt, blouse patterns are easy enough to enhance with your own design details. Basic black fabric, black lace and other Gothic embellishments and whala you have a black vampy dress with lace inserts and lace finger tip thingys. Another idea is take your favorite Gothic looking skirt and blouse and basically do the same as above. You can make up some pretty cool one of a kind designs using what you have in the closet as your basic pattern, then let your imagination go. Good Luck
