I breast fed for nine months and my lttle one NEVER had a bottle for anyting!

as you are well aware, there are two kinds of milk from the breast, foremilk and hindmilk..

foremilk is the ‘water’ (in effect) and the hindmilk is the creamy nutrtional stuff (food)

when it’s hot, your body automatically make s more foremilk to keep baby hydrated, and when it’s cold vice versa.

even when my baby has gasterenteritus, he STILL refused the bottle or beaer of juice! and I had to take him to hosptal and stay there, they tried everything and concluded that he simply wouldn’t have it, and didn’t seem to be suffering for it at all.

as long as your baby is still having wet nappies, then I shouldn’t worry. a lot of people who haven’t breast fed for this long will panic and say ‘no baby must have juice by now!’ thats horsepoo, honestly!

babies fontanelle should still be softish on the top, you can tell if a baby is dehydrated, if the fontanelle is dipped in and ‘pulsing’ it means baby needs more fluid, if his fontanelle is not visble, he is fine.

it’s quite normal for babies not to accept a bottle (especially from the mum, they can smell the milk on you) so why would they want a horrid plastic bottle, when they can have you?

if you are desperate, I used to use a ‘steri-bottle’ but even then, it took nine months for him to accept it. your nipple collapses in the babiesmouth, which is a far cry from what a bottle teat does! steri-bottles teats are very very soft sillicone, and it sits in the mouth very similar to the nipple…all other bottles didn’t work, I’m talking avent, boots, mothercare, the brown expensive £8 a bottle, bottles didn’t work either, breast fed babies just don’t like the fake teats..

if your happy breast feeding, then don’t worry, honestly! wet nappies = enough wee = enough fluids!

she loves her mummy…

All three of my children never took bottles. My youngest at the age of 6 months quit (by herself) breastfeeding. She refused bottles so I tried sippy cups. Sometimes she would take them and sometimes not. I wouldn’t worry, my daughters doctor said as long as she is gaining weight and healthy not to worry.

So, relax, feed her just like you are (maybe mix rice cereal with milk), and keep breastfeeding. That’s what she needs right now. When she gets closer to a year old then try to give her a sippy cup (you could now to). It will take some practice but she will get used to it.

Good luck
