Can my Chihuahua have a beagle's babies?

if my 20 pound beagle gets my 5 pound chihuahua pregnant can she safely have the pups or will she die? Can you get them fixed when they are pregnant, even though it is a little inhumane?

Answer #1

its going to be fine dont worry I should know my chihuahua got pregnant by a bigger dog and she had really big chubby puppis and she didnt have any problems at all so just relax.

Answer #2

Take her to the vet, and see if something can be done…a ceserian will cost you a lot more than a morning after doggie pill.

I work at a vet hospital and I have two chihuahua’s. First let me start by not listening to everyone who yells at you. Every dog having babies is at risk and not being spayed or neutered can cause future health risk. Knowing all of this I breed my 7lb chi with my 4lb female. First liter went great, she had 3 and she did a great job and all was well. Now let me tell you she is 62 day into her pregnancy now and upon x ray three days ago the puppy is HUGE now I have to make a choice to see if she can have it or do a c-section. I would not breed a bigger male with a smaller female, if she only has on baby her chances of the baby growing and taking up all that room is high. Please just talk to your vet and get the support you need. The internet should not be your first or second choice. I have no problem with people chosing to breed. Yes there are dogs in shelters all over the world however when you love a breed you love that breed. Just as long as you know all the risk and how much money it can cost you. From experince I have never made a penny on any of my pups due to x rays, ultrasounds and first round of vaccines. It is wonderful when all goes well, but there is always a chance with any female dog that things can go wrong. Thanks for your time.

Hi,

It is dangerous to the Mom if she is trying to birth a larger dog’s pups. I’d suggest that if you let the pregnancy go to term, you would pay extra special care when she begins to go into labor and have your vet on standby in case she needs an emergency C-section.

Emergency C-sections can be rough on dogs. First of all, the puppies get a dose of the anesthetic that the mother is given, so they can be lethargic and make it more difficult to breathe when they are born. Secondly, it makes it so the Mother is not united with her puppies from birth, but is given them once she comes out of the anesthetic–which can make her reject one or more of the pups easier.

If you do not want her to carry the puppies to full term, most vets and shelter clinics will perform an abortion AND spay on a pregnant dog. I know the Humane Society where I work does it often.

Good luck. Hope I helped.

Oh Boy! If your 20 pound Beagle, got your 5 pound Chihuahua pregnant, then I can guarantee you, that your Chihuahua, will not be able to deliver those puppies on her own and might not even be able to carry the puppies full term, because they will be way to big for her!

At 5 pounds, you should have had her Spayed! 5 pounds, is way too small, to go through something so traumatic.

I really hope she is under the supervision of the vet! If not, you really need to get her to a vet and have her checked out. That Is A Must!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Chihuahuas are known to die while giving birth, and the fact that your Chihuahua is only 5 pounds, makes the risk so much higher.

I feel really sorry for her!!!

Good Luck! I hope she survives this pregnancy and delivery!!!

my fathers beagle got to my chihuahua I myself was very woried and did not have lots of money for vet bills. around 45 days pregnant I could feel the size of her pups and just keep monitoring them to make sure they did not get huge need less to say she had them a week ago they look nothing like beagle they look like her. so it would be your choice to take a chance and pray your butt off like I did or the vet can abort them but if they do it ruins their uterus and they have to b spayed. GOOD LUCK

Answer #8

most likely yes if your dog isnt extremly small. you are best bet would be checking with your vet, see what they say but abortions on dogs??? That would mess her mind up, she knows, she defiantly knows that shes pregnant-no doubt about it. and if they were aborted she would become depressed. (same thing with false pregnancy) get a c section if the pups dont come out when she is in labor. an abortion would emotionally hurt her while a c section, she wouldnt feel anything. she most likely will know the pups are hers there is a small chance she wont but she might ‘adopt’ them in her mind good luck!

Answer #9

A dog getting pregnant needs to mate with a dog smaller than it is so there wont be complicationsduring the birth, and yes it can lead to death if your dogs puppys are bigger than what she can deliver.

Answer #10

it’s probably not good for your chihuahua to have the beagles pups. my brother’s chihuahua had trouble delivering her puppies… the father was a chihuahua/dachsund mix. Do what is in the best interest of you dog. Best of luck!
