thats totally inapropriate what your dentist said, as for your mom, tell her you need to get your teeth fixed, and you really hate needles.

Phobias are by definition irrational fears. There is no way to reason your way through not being afraid of needles if you have a true phobia. Having a phobia does not mean that you are weak or immature, it is a psychological problem that can not be overcome without work. You need to find a more patient and sympathetic dentist.

  I think you need to change dentists. I think, nowadays, most dentists use a numbing agent on your gums so that you don’t even feel the needle much if at all.

Doctors and dentists can be so tactless sometimes. I’ve had problems with them too. But it’s a pity they can’t use gas to knock you out. I had that done when I was young. I think it’s too expensive now though. Still, it’s a shame. Flipping doctors and dentists. They should understand about phobias, for crying out loud! They usually treat them!

no you are not dumb you are just scared of needles!!! so am I but your going to have to stand up to them sooner or later!!! I am scared of them to but when I go to my dentist I bring my music and head phones and listen to music while they are fixing my teeth!!! most people are scared !!!

I HATE NEEDLES!!!

I am a HUGE 13 year old guy (bigger then mom and almost bigger than dad) and I have a detonate fear of needles. I have always hated getting cavaties being filled in so I try to keep my teeth clean! About the needles, recently I have been kinda sick so I have been getting lotsa blood tests and I hate them. I have good doctors so they completely understand my phobia. They told me a story of one time when there was a burley adult biker dude and he was totally freaked out about the needles! LOL!

- Try to relax your entire body and think about something else. In my case I could look out a window but you might not have one. I am still currentl scared of needles and it is totally normal. Phobias are IRRATIONAL fears, it doesn’t mean you are wimpy. I still hold my moms hand when I get shots. Funmail me if you wanna chat!
