How would these things effect pregnancy within the first month?

I found out I am pregnant. I am not sure how long, but it’s within 1 month. I drink a lot of coffee every morning, I smoke cigs, and I drink a lot of liquor at night. I also take various mood stabilizing medications, and diet medications. I’ve been on birthcontrol for 7 years, so getting pregnant in the first place is a shock to me. Would all of these factors effect the pregnancy within the first month?

Answer #1

The most things I would worry about is the alcahol and the birth control because they can cause mental retardation and down syndrome. Now not saying its right but I drank a lot of caffiene and smoked with all of my pregnancies and all 3 of my kid were fine. The doctors prescribed me xanax with my second baby but im not sure what kind of meds you were taking. if you have anymore question just let me know I may be able to help you because I have 3 kids and have read all the books about pregnency.

Answer #2

yes, all those things can cause birth defects and misscaridges you need to speak with a doctor and discuss all the things youve been doing and how and why they can affect your baby

Answer #3

I take medication for bi-polar, and for schizofrenia. I can’t exactly stop taking them.

But would any of that cause a miscarriage or still birth?

Answer #4

THE BIRTHCONTROL WONT DO NOTHING TO THE BABY BUT STOP TAKIN IT I DONT SEE THE POINT. THE ALCOHOL AND CIGARETES CAN GIVE your BABY MENTAL RETARDATION AND ASTHMA I DONT THINK you WANT A SICK BABY. THE COFFEE IS ALSO BAD HOW ABOUT SOME ORANGE JUICE AND PRENATAL VITAMINS. IF you ARE NOT PLANNING ON KEEPING IT THE GO AHEAD BUT IF you ARE STOPPP NOWWW.

Answer #5

do your best to stop all of them as the baby can become disabled and you will have a lot of work to do to help that child xxx

  1. You officially stopped smoking and drinking the coffee and alcohol, right? That’d be a given, because you’re smart enough, and not a such a selfish person to keep doing harmful things to a helpless baby…

Also- do NOT take any more birth control! That CAN cause miscarriage, but even if it doesn’t, the likelihood that it’ll result in mental retardation and physical deformities is significant.

The most important thing is to contact a doctor immediately. A doctor can switch your meds if necessary to prevent further damage to the baby. If anything, the only things that would really be damaging to the baby at this point would be the birth control and (possibly) the other medications.

I personally know a child who suffers from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Her mother smoked and drank (both where moderate to heavy usage) the entire time she was pregnant. This little girl is 12, and is the size of an average 7 or 8 year old. She has several developmental issues, but is very intelligent. Intelligent to know she is different, and to be frustrated by the fact that she struggles with somethings. She is very physically behind for her age as well, besides being small. Her mother’s cigarette usage left her on oxygen for the first 3 months of her life and she suffers from severe asthma. She’s a mentally normal, average pre-teen, stuck in a damaged body that will only continue to deteriorate as she gets older. It is heartbreaking to hear this girl talk about how other kids tease her and how she just wishes she was normal and healthy like everybody else. Don’t do that to your baby.

You have the wonderful benefit of knowing EARLY- it’s definitely not too late for you to make your body a healthier place for this little one to grow. Your chances are good- if you stop this destructive behavior now- that your little baby will be just fine. But call an OB/GYN and stop taking the bc, stop the diet pills, stop smoking, stop drinking alcohol, and cut back on the coffee. Check with your psychiatrist and OB/GYN to see if you should stop taking the meds or switch them.

Good luck. Congrats on the kiddo- they’re amazing.
