how to stop this virus?

I have a virus on my computer, I think it’s spyware or something I don’t know but my log in settings are being controlled because this thing keeps popping up saying “remote settings; your log in settings are being controlled by (I forget what it was..) @sbcglobal.net”, anyways it seems to be only on my account and no one else’s, if I delete my account and start a new one do you think it might go away?

I deleted limewire which I believe was the main cause and also just because we don’t have windows 7 yet.. I think..

avg has anti-spyware built in there for you only need avg ;)

if you delete that account your deleting that part of the hdd reserved fo that account so yes it might delete the virus with it…

but it might not…

in this order: download avg to another account and install - delete the account with virus on (if its a admin account make sure you create another admin account) - go back to the new account and run avg (change settings so it scans slow so it has better change of not missing anything)

Sounds like spyware. Darkred has a good suggestion - Malwarebytes, or Ad-aware, or Spybot: Search & Destroy … or all three. Get them from a VERY trusted site www.downloads.com Which will be cnet when you get there. Run them one at a time (takes awhile).

Then run AVG (an anti-virus) which you can get from the same source. They all have free versions. (The paid versions are a little more robust.)

That’s spyware, don’t sign into anything online, no email accounts and don’t enter personal info. But go with darkreds’ suggestion. AVG is my personal preference

ok! get AVG or Malwarebytes they are anti-virus/spyware programs once installed update them and run a scan eventually your pc will be like new

Make sure to run the scans in safe mode, or you probably won’t be able to delete the viruses.
