How to stop my dog weeing at night?
my 2nd (6month old puppy) keeps toileting at night and when we go out (never when we are here) and always in the back of the kitchen where they both sleep/eat. What can I do? I seriously want to give the little bugger away!!!
When it comes to dog training, listen to phrannie. She has more experience in her little finger than most of us do in our entire body.
I am not a fan of crating but if done properly and only during problem times, it works.
Have you had the pup examined by a vet to make sure he isn’t having a kidney or some other problem? Not likely with a young dog, but it could happen.
hi, thanks for your advice, but that is what I’ve been doing since I got him. My other two dogs were trained within 2 weeks, then I got this puppy, and he didnt get it, at first my older dog would wee on top of the puppys wee, to prove he was the boss, so I started feeding the puppy first, then it stopped, then I used training pads, and he used them fine, but still did it indoors & out, so then I started putting the pads outside, (I am in all day everyday, so I let them out every hour) but he still does it inside the minute I leave the house, and every night, on training pads if they are down, or on the floor if they arent. This is after I’ve let him out at 11pm and we get up at 5.30am, & he’s let out every hour through the day (and left out for at least half hour) can you see my problem now!!? He is a complete pain in the ar*e, I dont want a huge crate in my kitchen, but that might be my only option (although I’m sure he’d crap in there too)
Thanks everyone, I do think the fact I never catch him at it isnt helping matters. But not only that, its like last night, I fed him at 5pm, let them out 3 times before I finally let them out (I have an adult dog too) at 10pm, went to bed, then when my partner came home at 1.30am there was crao and wee everywhere!! So he cleaned it up, went to bed, and then when I got up at 6am there was more crap and wee again!!! You can imagine how this effects ones sanity!! lol I just dont get how he’s making it all?
I disagree with phrannie.
Crate training can make a dog neurotic from what I have seen.
Rubbing the nose in it does work, in my experience. However, as I said you have to catch them at it. Unless you are on it in seconds, it is ancient history and too late. So, although I advocate the rubbing the nose technique you have to be right on top of them to make it work.
Crate her…period. That is the best way to teach housetraining at night. You’re using her basic instincts to be clean, to learn. Letting them have a large area for night is begging for them to use that area.
DO NOT RUB HIS NOSE IN IT!!…By the time you see it, it is ANCIENT history to a pup. All you do is make the pup afraid of you…
Use his own instinct to be clean, to train this pup…
p
I know that some people think it’s mean but what always worked for our puppies was if they kept peeing inside if you can catch them at it rub his nose in it and then put him immediately outside. You don’t have to like wipe up the floor with it, just a touch of his nose in his own pee gets the message across. I know some people are now probably going to say this is abusive or something, but it works and our dogs have always been happy animals afterwards.
I know its hard, puppies are hard, have you ever asked a pet shop or vet? if he ever goes outside to go to the toliet reward him with a treat and make a very big fussy, so he knows he has done good. as I said always make him go out every 2hours or something so he gets the idea
I’ve tried training pads, he goes on them, but its still inside!! How do I then get him to do it outside?? I tried putting them outside, but when I dont have them down, he goes on the floor inside anyway!
before you give him away try this . we had the same problem, but she was about 4month. you need to get puppy training pads ( which you can buy at any supermarket or pet shop) and put them down near the kitchen door and near your puppy, your puppy will soon get the idea( this may take a few weeks sometimes) , train your puppy to go to the toliet outside by putting it out every couple of hours and he will soon get the message, so when you go out or go to bed, he we understand to hold himself or use the pads.
before you go giving the dog away, try buying a potty pad and place it indoors where the dog normally goes
