How to stop my cat from spraying?

So my cat is spayed but he still sprays this one spot…it is his bed and I guess he wants to mark it as his territory or something. Is there any way to stop him from spraying it?? Thanks!

If this is something that just recently started its more than likely caused by stress. Fix what is stressing him out and you fix the problem. Stress can be caused by a change of your routine, new pet, new baby, rearranging furniture, etc.

If he has always sprayed. Then it can be a lot trickier. Did you have him neutered before or after he started spraying. If neutered after he started spraying it can be a lot more diffucult. IF this is the case there is a few approaches you can take.

You can use Feliway which is a friendly pheromone that you spray or put a difuser in the area your cat sprays and these pheromones pacify your cat.

You can use SSSCat. SSScat is a motion detector with an aerosol spray. This spray keeps the cat away from the area he sprays and if he only sprays in one area can usually fix the issue.

They also use anti-anxiety drugs for cats who spray, but I wouldn’t recommend it due to cost and your cat loses all its personality and walks around like a zombie.

Also, be sure to clean the area they spary quickly with a laundry detergent that contians enzymes and then spary the area with a 50/50 mix of white veingar and water.

Thoroughly wash the area. The kitty is probably smelling it’s smell and continues to go in that place. You could also try to move the bed somewhere else after you thoroughly wash it.

If you have other cats or animals it could be because they hog the litter box or they are protective of the litter box, so they will avoid going in it. Try getting another litter box along with the one you have.

Or it could be that they are stressed out with a recent move, or if you recently brought a new animal or person into the household.

Or it feels neglected and wants attention.

Cats are interesting creatures. And also very sensitive. Be patient with your kitty, and show it some love.

Well, first off, he should be neutered.

That doesn’t always stop the behaviour but it often does work. The only way I managed to get my cat to stop spraying is by spraying him with a water bottle every time I caught him in the act.

Make sure that when he does spray, you clean the area immediately, because the longer it sits, the harder it will be to get the smell out and then the behaviour will never stop.

He is neutured. I will try spraying him with water though, thanks!
