How to make customers buy?

How do you increase clothing sales?

Answer #1

Hate to say it but you will sell more if you push products. When I first started to work in retail I assumed that intelligent people would decide if they wanted something or not and my job was just finding what they were looking for and letting them decide. Then some new salespeople came in that were selling a lot more stuff than I was. They were super high pressure and they would just go on about how great what we sold was, that the price was probably going to go up a lot in the future or that we weren’t going to be able to get any more after these sell out, someone else is already looking at this, etc. When they badgered customers into sales I thought to myself that when the customers got home and thought more about it that they would bring the merchandise back or vow never to shop here again but neither turned out to be true.

I was very disappointed that human beings can be so easily manipulated but the truth is that high pressure selling works. The more aggressively you sell to people the more they will buy.

Stay stocked. - If a customer likes a certain shirt but cannot find their size… you’ll lose that sale and most likely the customer will not return.

Show the value - Nothing is more annoying than not knowing the price. A customer is also more inclined to buy if the price is lower than the original and they are “getting a deal”

Presentation - You don’t want to look like a flea market. Customer space is important(being able to walk between clothing racks easily),

Look at the plane... is everything at one level? It's hard to focus on items if customer does not know where to look.
Use your walls for displays, use bright colors.
Clothing should be organized by style, the color, then size.
You also want to make sure that next to one rack is something that will make an outfit. When women shop they usually do not know what they are looking for (as opposed to men who usually know exactly what they want. ) so look for that impulsive buy... ""Oooh I love this tank top (turn around) and oh wow these shorts will go perfect with it!"" You don't want a clubbing shirt sitting next to a rack of yoga pants. So merchandising uses a lot of fashion sense.

Suggestive sales - A customer is more inclined to buy something if you suggest it. Deals are a great incentive to buy. “”Buy one shirt get the second half off!”” so when they get to the register with one ask them “”did you know if you get another one of these you’ll get it half off?”” Also asking if they saw a particular item that went with their purchase (so knowing your merchandise is very important)

Also don’t forget about your return policy. Have it clearly stated at the checkout and let them know about it. Give a discount on damage items.

(I’ve been in Apparel retailing with 2 different companies.)

Find out what they are comfortable in. What colors they like on themselves. If they like loose or tight fitting clothing.

I worked at jcpenney in the mens for 9 months. the first 3 I made sales go up by 30 %

Be honest. If you don’t like the way it looks tell them. But if they do then say it doesn’t look bad but I think this will look even better.

The reason they go to you is for help, so help them.

Advertising and location. Model your clothes on petite, fit manequins/models, so there is an underlying message that if people buy your clothes, they will somehow reach the unattainable hollywood look that the magazines push for. Put more money into bulk advertising than any other extras. If you have a physical location (like not online, but a store) Make sure you are in a well populated area and your sign is easily viewable.

Answer #5

Make sure they are fabulous! Fairly priced. Good quality material. And make sure you have a varity of sizes. That is all I can think of right at the moment, I am sure someone else will come along with some more good advice.

Hey, do you make this clothing?

Answer #6

No I don’t make them. I merely sell them.
