How to know a good estimate of when I conceived?

I recently found out I am pregnant. I decided to take a test because my breasts have been sore for the past almost 2 weeks, and I have had headaches. I have a situation though. I get my period every other month so the last was 1/22/08-1/27/08. I had sex with my boyfriend 2 days after the end of my period (that’s when I think I might have conceived), but I am wondering if there is still a chance I could have conceived in Jan before my period and still bled. I had another partner in Jan (sex a couple of times between Jan 5- jan 10 and one time on jan 13 that I know of for sure.) It was not cheating, I was seeing two and have recently committed to my now boyfriend-he knows the situation. I want to know soon to keep my options open. My boyfriend and I want a baby but if there is a chance it’s not his we will have to decide what to do. How can I know for sure when I conceived (or better yet who’s the father) with out waiting any longer?

:) awww. Try not to worry… I’m sure it will all work out! No, sore breasts happen almost immediately. I remember that with my first. It was a wonderful soreness because I was so happy to be pregnant. You sound like you’ve got your head screwed on right and that child is going to be well loved and taken care of. Keep me in the loop!

I have so many questions (because this is my first pergnancy) so… if I get the blood test done at the doctors how long will I have to wait for results? (you know…confirming my pregnancy and how far along I am)

I go to the Docs at 3:30 today (eastern time) Thank you so much!! I will def. keep you informed.

Conception normally takes place about 14 days before the start of your next period. You release one egg at that time, and generally it could be around 12 to 17 days before, if not exactly 14.

Ask your doctor if the blood test can determine the exact time - I know around 9 weeks there’s much more of the Hcg hormone in your blood.

I guess I am just looking for someone to talk to, to get some answers/support and to ease my mind a little. I really want this to be my boyfriend’s baby. I never thought I would be that girl who didn’t know who the father was!!! Ughh I hate this! like I said though, I get my period every other month and am confused as to how to calculate everything.

Answer #6

well we don’t know… when did you take the pregnancy test and get it to come out positive? are you sure you’re pregnant? If you conceived in feb you should have missed your period that was due on feb 19… even though you dont get a period every month (irregular? or are you taking something to make it like that?)

Answer #7

the doctor seems to think I got preg the week of the 20th. Not to get too personal but me and my boyfriend did have s3x a FEW times that weekend (18th 19 th and 20th). My hopes are high but I want to know for sure!

-so confused

Answer #8

very slim chance but yes you could of but it is still depending on when your egg is realsed and that is normal 1 day or 2 before you get off your period

Answer #9

you would of conceived after your period that is when your eggs is realesed and is the highest chance for you to get pregenant

Answer #10

Is there still a chance that I could have conceived before my period like in the middle of Jan regardless of the bleeding??

Answer #11

since that is gestational age couldn’t that mean that I could have gotten pregnant earlier in Jan or actually gotten pregnant from s3x I had earlier than jan 24th???

Answer #12

Great news Yes,! Jan 24 at the very outside, so you would have conceved at the end of Jan, beginning of Feb. I got your email and will reply later today. You should have a big smile on your face now :)!

Answer #13

Oh and after re-evaluating… my las period started on Jan 25th.

Anyway, Doctor says 4-6 weeks pregnant so at most that means I conceived on Jan 24th? does that pose the chance that it could be by the other guy?? Or am I safe to say that my boyfriend is a daddy??? please help!

Answer #14

14 days before my period in jan or feb?

Answer #15

yup ;)

Answer #16

I had a tear in my eye (don’t mean to sound all sappy) but just reading the part that you said “ I’ll be thinking of you today when you’re at the docs” kinda touched me. Thanks for all of your help. Oh and just to provide a little more info on myself… I am 22 and I work full time (just recently received a promotion at work! :) ) This would be my first child.

Oh and just a Q… around the week of Feb 11th is when I noticed the sore breasts… would this be too soon to notice, if I got preg around Feb 5th?? Thanks again!

Answer #17

PinkPearl, Well I get my period every other month (it has been that way since age 14. I don’t take anything to make it that way.) So I didn’t get one in Dec., had a moderate flow in Jan., and none in Feb. I wouldn’t get it until march so I technically didn’t miss my period in Feb. I took 2 preg tests on March 3rd and both showed a faint positive (first response test) then on March 4th I took a Clear Blue test and it said “pregnant”

Answer #18

When they calculate the number of weeks you are, they always take it from the date of your last period. Now because most women ovulate 2 weeks after that date, there’s always this questionable 2 weeks where you were NOT pregnant, eg. gestation is 38 weeks but they always say 40. Those first two weeks, you were not pregant. Does that make sense?

So when he says 4 to 6 weeks, thats like saying 38-40 weeks, ie the first two weeks don’t really count in the average woman. I think you got pregnant at the end of Jan :) :) :)

Answer #19

Hmmm, if I had to put my money on it, I’d say you got pregnant around Feb 5… and the chance of you getting pregant in January, by your ex, is much smaller but still there. I hope the normal blood test can pin it down properly. If it can’t right now, it will definitely be able to around the 9 week mark. I’ll be thinking of you today when you’re at the docs… good luck, my fingers are crossed!
