The easiest way to start growing mushrooms is to get a mushroom growing kit. Most garden stores and online sites like eBay sell these.
In the kit, you will have something like a block of compost , usually with a white layer on top (mold that will be the host to the mushroom seeds, which are already planted in such kits). Also there will be some form of moss included.
Take a fork and make lines all in the top of the compost. You really just want to make the white layer loose. Grab a handful of this and put it into a bag with some moss, let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Take this moss/compost mixture and put it over soil. This is ‘planting’ the mushrooms Then you just have to let them grow.
The cool thing is, sunlight isn’t necessary. Damp dark places are ideal for your mushrooms to grow.
