How to do well in maths exam?

You need to keep doing practice papers and questions on the topics in the exam, because they always have the same type of questions. It’s the methods you need to learn, and when you practice them enough they’ll become almost second nature and you will be able to instantly recognise what you need to do for each question. :)

Here’s the thing, it’s a little hard to know exactly how to help you if we dont know exactly what is going on. It is quite easy to do well in your homework because you’ve got time, lack of pressure, the formulas, and a book showing you the steps. So here’s the thing, which part of this are you having issues with during the exam. If you’re having time issues, you’re just going to have to practice doing your homework within a certain amount of time. During a test you have to plan out your time. Figure out which questions have the most points and do those first, if they all have the same amount of points, do the easy ones first and then come back to the hard ones. Give yourself a certain amount of time. If you cant complete a question, move on and come back when you’ve done everything else. If it is pressure getting to you, try some relaxation (deep breaths from the stomach, challenge thoughts about failing, picture yourself in a peaceful place for a few minutes before your exam starts, and no matter what you do, no last minute studying). If you’re having issues with formulas, i’m not entirely sure what you can do. This is what i do, i memorize the formulas, and the first thing I do when given the test paper is write out all the formulas on the test before I even start on the first question. That way i’m not worried about forgetting a formula while i’m doing the test. Now, if it boils down to you simply not being able to do the questions without an example, it shows that you really did not understand how to do the work. When you’re working at home, try to do your homework without checking back at the examples. If you understand something, you wont need to look at the examples or previous questions. This way you’ll be able to see the parts you truly understand from the parts you are just following the instructions on. If it is something else you’re having issues with, let us know.
