You need to use a ceramic ionic flat iron. The ceramic flat irons heat more evenly and the ionic part is actually very good for your hair. I looked and priced them and they can be quite pricey ($199.00), but I also looked on Ebay and there are some of these type of flat irons up for bid. Have your parents open an paypal account (it is free and assures them of safe purchases and theft prevention). It takes about 3-4 weekdays to get a paypal account set up, but I’ve used one for 5 years with my e-bay purchases and have had every purchase I’ve paid for through paypal a)covered for theft or from being taken by the seller, and b)it prevents anyone from accessing my account in any way, so my payments are safe, as is my checking account. Once the paypay account is in place, go online into e-bay, click on the buy button and put ceramic ionic flat irons in the search line. There were quite a few and you can bid on these and actually get a flat iron worth 200 for about 40 dollars. I purchased a genuine white gold and pearl ring (complete with papers authenticating the purchase), that was worth 125 dollars for 30 dollars.
