How should I lighten my dark brown hair??Please helpp!!!

So I have VERY dark hair, almost black.When I was a kid, it was a pretty light brown though, almost dirty blonde!!!Anyway, I HATE it. Ever since I was little, I dreamed of having light hair and fantasized about lightening it…Please keep in mind, I will NOT go to a salon!!!I REALLY want to do this my elf.I live in California on a beach, so I was thinking of using a lemon juice solution on it, spending time in the sun, and then washing it out for a lighter, hopefully dirty blonde color.I’ve heard this doesn’t work on brunettes though!Is this true??I know all there is to know about bleaching hair, but it seems too risky, since the color I want is dirty blonde…Does anyone have any ideas??

I used sun-in and I got really natural sexy reddish highlights, I know thats not what you wanted but its a alternative…I dont think there is a way to lighten your hair that much without salon stuff…good luck though!
