What would be the baby's nationality?

Well this question is probably ment in the least racist way posible so please nobody take offence but me and my friends have been debating if::

say someone got pregnant in spain(or any countrey) and then moved over to england where the baby was born would the baby be english or spanish? me and 6 other friends think it would still be spanish because of the jeans because think about it the pairents are fully spanish and the child was made over there how could it be englishh apart from it was deliverd here although most of my other friends strongly disagree.. does anyone actualy know the answer to put us all out of this stupid debate… ?

Answer #1

Its the same here in UK.

Answer #2

spanish

Answer #3

baby is english in americas eyes

Answer #4

Well it depends on the perents Not just the country, So if the perent was spain and the baby moved to england then the kid would be spanish because os not where his born is where he comes from what runs in his blood.

Answer #5

If the parents are Spanish, then baby is of Spanish descent but English born, just as if the parents were Swiss and the baby was conceived in Spain but born in England, it would be of Swiss descent but English born.

Answer #6

thats what I thaught; that it all depended on the pairents but then someone said the baby could choose which race it was but I just got really confused… tbh its annoying :) x

Answer #7

You’re confusing race and nationality. They are not the same thing. The citizenship that someone can claim has nothing to do with the genes in their body (not since 1944, anyway).

Answer #8

legally, if the mother is english and the child is born in britain, then the child is 100% british. If the father is spanish, then the childs heritage is 50/50. Nationality and heritage are totally different, but for the child to have duel nationality the father must be married to the mother or apply to the government to make it so.

Because the mother and father are both spanish and simply moved to the uk, the child is spanish. If/When the parents are granted citizenship, so is the baby. The child is then a british citizen with spanish heritage. It is not automatically british unless the parents become citizens.

Answer #9

Nationality and race aren’t the same. I don’t know what the UK’s laws are…but if a baby was conceived in Spain, BY A SPANISH MOTHER…but was born in the US, the baby would be an American of Hispanic descent…the mother, however would still be a Spanish citizen.

Answer #10

if ur parents do not have citizenship of that country then u baby cannot be that nationality, eg. i could have been born in japan but that does not make me japanese. my parents are aussie citizens and tho if i was born in japan that does not make me japanese. thou that would have been cool xD
