How much money do rappers get paid?

Well are we talking sign recorded stupid rapper, or small town just getting started?

If you are just getting started, playing some club and bar gigs, you don’t make much. even if you start selling some CD’s on your own you still aren’t making much money. After production cost and everything.

I have worked with a couple rappers printing up flyers, posters, and album covers, and from what they have said a lot of times they really struggle to get by. Mostly they are playing at local clubs and bars and on a good night Friday or Saturday night might pull in $400-500, but normally they said its about $300 a night for weekends, and $150-200 on weekdays. But they aren’t working a steady 5 days a week. Its a couple days here, one weekend there kinda thing. Very had to get a club/bar to sign you up for a reoccurring gig.

And you have to remember that money has to get split between all members of the band. Have to take into account cost for maintenance of the equipment, gas, ect.

Also have the initial cost of all your equipment.

So you aren’t gong to go out and over night start making bank. These guys I have known have been doing this for about 5 or 6 years now, and just are starting to get to the point where they can more or less support them selves of of just their music carrier, with some DJ work and other odd jobs thrown in.

And by no means do I mean to say -give up your dreams, it isn’t going to happen- just try to fill you in on the realities of it.
