How much liquid childrens benadryl can I give to my dog?

I have a 14lb boston terrier, she got stung by a bee and I was told I could give her childrens benadryl, 1 mg per pound but how many teaspoons is that?

Answer #1

1 gram is 1000 mg and there are 5 grams in a teaspoon, so that would be 5000 gr…way too much if you’re going at the rate of 1 mg / pound.

Definitely talk to a vet first.

Answer #2

1mg is a unit of weight, a liquid is measured in units of volume.

On the container of medicine it should say the mg to ml conversion since every liquid will be different.

I believe (trying to remember back when I worked in a pharmacy) Children’s Benedryl = 12.5 mg per 5ml (1 teaspoon) So you are looking to be at 14mg so 1 and 1/10th teaspoon due to the small difference it would make. I would just give the pup 1 teaspoon.

Edit: Just confirmed through the pharmacy conversion list of over the counter medication. Children’s Benedryl is 12.5mg per 5ml or 12.5mg per teaspoon.

I would call your vet before you do anything
