How many megawatts is the laser in a laptop?

Im wondering how string the laser in my laptop is, and another question, would it work to ta the laser out of a old laptop and mount it on a for say a pen or something and power it with like 2 or 4 double a batteries or how ever many it takes. If that worked could it actually burn paper or somethn if you hold it there long enough? Please dont give me a stupid answer either.

If your laptop has a DVD burner in it, it’s easily powerful enough to burn. You aren’t going to chop down trees with it or anything, but a couple of AA batteries will be more than enough to burn through paper, light matches, etc. People don’t realize how strong those things are.

Here’s a nice little how-to video on how to make a burning laser pointer from a DVD laser diode. It involves some minor soldering, but nothing too major.
