How long does defragmenting a harddrive takes?

Does anybody know …mine is being defragmenting for 7 hours and is still not done..I have windows vista

your best bet is to let it go for a day..just walk away an come back later. Because it all depends on how big the hard drive is..and how long its been since you’ve last defraged it.

depends on teh size of teh drive and how badly its fragmented…

takes me around 6 mins to do my WD 640G sata black and around 8 to 10 mins to do my WD 320G sata blue

dont leave it so long next time… a clean system is a happy system :) and less prone to system errors ;)

I’ve had where mine took about a day before it was done. As star124 pointed out, it depends on how big your HDD is and also one how slow/fast your computer is.
