how long before you learn the guitar? ( you own experience )

I had lessons for about 3 years. and I think after awhile they held me back. I wasnt that good until I stopped lessons. it might’ve just been the teachers I had. all they did was teach me note reading. not cool. no one uses notes anymore unless you play piano anyways. haha :D

depends what type of guitar…

acoustic must be taught - too much to be learnt from the hundreds of years of people playing it.. lots of technique

jazz needs lessons otherwise you’ll come out with crap

electric doesn’t need teaching for shure - easiest instrument ever.

personally I play acoustic guitar, I’m 14 and have been playing since I was 6 - always had lessons. I’m on grade 5 and I’m ok at it now.

I took up electric when I was about 8 - and it was easy as anything

I taught myself (guitar is a self taught instrument for sure.) and it took me about a year to get as good as I am now…about 6 months to actually get what I was doing…personally I taught myself and then one day I could just all of a sudden play.
