how is it you can be born without a hymen?

I was reading an answer on here and this person mentioned that some women are born without there hymens and I would like to know how thats possible, and how to know if you arent born with it, is there a way to check your vagina yourself to see if it’s there or not?

and to check what type of hymen you have,sit down with your legs open and grab a mirror and open up your labia though keep in mind yours may already be broken because they easily get broken by things like masturbating, fingers, sex toys, tampons, horse riding, bicycle riding, aggressive sports and exercise
