How is a diesel injection pump is made?

Answer #1

Very fine tolerances are used in injection pumps and the lubricant is the fuel itself. Now days, the diesel is so low in sulfur, that it is imperative that a lubricity additive be used to prolong the life of the injectors and pump. Some of them use 29,000 psi to charge the combustion chamber with atomized fuel that ignites just by the pressure and heat obtained in the compression stroke. New electronic diesels don’t have the high fuel pressures, but still are very fuel efficient.
