that’s a good question. I was watching a rerun of ALF last night, and I was actually thinking about the same thing. In Alf, the mom and the neighbor lady who was also a mom both wore dresses… and this was in the 80’s. they wore dresses, and they cooked the dinner while the dad’s sat around and smoked pipes and taught the children life lessons.

Ok. now think about some of the sitcoms that were popular in the 90’s. Such as Step by Step and Family Matters. The moms in those shows were much more independent. they still took care of the families, but they had outside jobs and they were a bit cocky. It really personified the “behind every strong man is a strong woman” idea. They were the real rulers of the household.

And sitcoms today, like King of Queens, even shows women in executive positions, and as bread-winners of the household… other sitcoms show them as equal to their male counterparts.

Through the years as society has changed, the depiction of women in sitcoms has also changed.

well dont you think that over the years as sioctiy has changed that so have our programs, I no im a bit younge but like how betty boop had to have a skirt 2 cover knee an stuff like that, but as the world changed so did betty boop. I no its got nuffin 2 do wiv sitcoms but thats why im asking lol x
