How do you guys read faster?

When I first started reading books again, I timed myself as reading 52 pages in an hour. But I seem to be getting slower the more I get into books. My new years resolution is to read a book a week and at first it was a chore kinda but I now I love it!! I’m reading Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray now and I read the first Anne Rice book before that. I find that I’m only reading about 20 pages in half an hour now!! I don’t know whether it’s because I’m reading old books with small print and challenging words…but basically I’ve looked up about Reading faster and it’s all pretty technical…has anyone got any simple enough tips or advice?…whatever you do! Fellow bookworms! Haha. Because I have so many books I want to read. I read on the bus in the morning for about 40 mins and sometimes on the way home!! I have a certain amount of pages I aim to read a day to try and finish my book in a week!! Like 52 a day sometimes!

Does it really matter how fast you read? I’ll read a light romance novel in a day. My textbooks (with fewer pages) will take a little while longer. Just because it is harder to absorb that type of material. If you’re reading, you’re good. I wouldnt stress about how fast you read. What good is it reading every couple of words if you arent able to fully appreciate the book?

Answer #2

I dont think it matters how fast you read actually, I myself read about a book every two or three days (depending on thickness) but honestly does it matter how fast you read? isnt the point of reading to enjoy it? Its not a race! it dosnt matter how fast you read, its only the quality of the book thats important! and the enjoyment level.

In my opinion if your reading slower then that is actually a good thing because your taking time to relish the meaning of the words and developing a movie inside of your head.

Also reading quicker can make you miss some key points in the story so I wouldn’t turn down the option of reading a story slower. In the long run it will help you better evaluate the subject and the message of the book.

Answer #4

I think it’s the more challenging words. You’ll just have to practice and practice. I’m at roughly 110 pages an hour but I’ve read a lot. If I caught any words that I had no idea what they meant. I’d always look them up in Google. It will help ya out in the long run.

Answer #5

I don’t really read, I look at the words and know what it’s about. It’s weird. I can’t explain it. Anyone knows what I’m talking about?
