How do I stop a sunburn from peeling?

I got a sunburn, it’s not bad but it’s peeling a little and id really rather it didn’t. How can I stop it?

If your skin has been burned, peeling is inevitable.

But you can put it off for awhile and let the skin beneath the affected skin mature more before the affected skin makes its departure.

By moisturizing your skin you can keep the burned skin from drying too fast and flaking away. Aloe based moisturizers are good, as are many other moisturizers.

Another thing to do is not rub your skin while applying the moisturizer, just smooth it on and let it sink in, which will leave your troubled skin intact and less irritated.

It goes without saying that you should avoid the sun as much as possible, or when you do go out, use a high level of protection or cover up.

The longer you can keep this top layer, the less sensitive the next layer will be, and the less likely you are to get a more serious burn the next time you go out.”

My husband is a marine and coming home from his first deployment in a week! So to be “pretty” I went to the tanning bed. Unfortunately where I just had a baby my hormones made my skin unbalanced and caused me to get a HUGE burn. My face looked awful. So I read on the internet for hours and everyone kept saying moisturize, lotion, aloe vera etc. Duh? A third grader knows that. But it doesn’t make the peeling stop. So in my desperate attempt, I took vaseline from a jar and coated the areas where I was peeling(to where its still visible.. I used a lot) and left it on for about twenty minutes. Then I used an oil free face wash to wash it off(I had to use it twice) and I was free! Completely gone. My skin tone is still a tad uneven but barely noticeable. Good luck!

Oh.. and if a lady that works at the tanning salon tells you not to stay in the full 20, even if you have NEVER been burnt she probably knows what shes talking about. haha.

After the fact I dont know of any remedies. Before it peels I take aspirin to activate the melanin and put a good quality lotion on it. It usually works for me.

Answer #6

You really cant stop it from peeling if its already started but you can put heaps of lotion on to it and it should stop it peeling so bad. There are lots of after sun lotions and potions you can get to help it a bit. The old alovera plant is one of my favs though.

Answer #7

or you can just buy it in the bottle lol

I know this is odd; but try whole milk. My brother who has very Irish skin got really bad sunburn (I mean really bad), and he went to a doctor. The doctor said to take whole milk and put it in a bowl, then take a rag and damp the rag with the milk and to just keep pressing it against your face (or wherever the sunburn is). It really helped my brother from his face peeling =]. Hope I helped!
