How do I go about telling my parents I'm leaving... The state???

My boyfriends in north carolina…we’ve talked about us moving in together for the last few months… I’ve made my desicion about it and decided, theres nothing for me in this tiny town… My parents are strict, so strict I’m 19 an still have a curfew… How do I go about telling them that I’m moving to some place where I have so much more at my finger tips…?

Sit down and have a chit-chat with your parents. Explain what it is you want. If that is to be in North Carolina with your boyfriend then explain why and what the advantages are. Research the move thoroughly, meaning find out about schools there, start looking online for jobs, make sure you have a safe place to live and reliable tansportation.

The more prepared you are and the more thought out your plan is, the more convincing you will be. I understand you arent actually trying to CONVINCE them, but the better they feel about it the more accepting they will be. It will make it that much easier, now and in the long run.

I moved out two days after I graduated and I was only 17 at the time. When I told my parents I was planning to leave my mother just about had a heart attack. But after she got past the initial shock I sat her down and explained that I had already found a job and I was going to move in with a friend of mine. I had also applied for a bajillion scholarships and had plans to begin school the following Autumn (which I did btw) All of that really put her at ease.

Try to plan ahead and have your thoughts organized when you talk to them. Any positive aspect you give them will help, but be prepared for some opposition. Try not to argue, but give good solid evidence to your case and be understanding. After all, you are their baby :)

Cheers!

P.S. I know I’m still young but I’m a very goal oriented person… when I want to get something done it gets done… If it doesn’t go how I would have liked it… Well I learned the hard way
