How do I get my hamster to climb his tubes??

I have a chinese (dwarf) hamster and I have had him only a few days but he wont climb up his tubes which he needs to do because of his cage. He has a bedroom section, a play section and a very small water and food section and they are all connected by up and down tubes. I cant leave him in his food section all the time because its to small but I cant leave him in his play section either because he wont be able to eat or drink.For now I have to move him every now and again to he can eat. I have cut up suitable cloths and attached them to the inside of his tubes but he still wont climb. I have put him in his tubes and he can do it with help just not on his own. Please help. xx

That happened 2 me w/ mine2. I just put mine in1 part near a tube and pushed her lightly telling her 2 go down the tube. Then I a treat at the other end of the tube and taped he and until she went down she tried 2 come back upso I cover the hold and she realized that she needed 2 go down 2 the other side. From then on she would go up and down her self.
