How do I find a good psychologist?

How can I find a good psychologist/psychiatrist/counsellor in my country (Cyprus)? I used to go to a counsellor for quite some time but stopped because he didn’t help. I thought maybe I don’t need proffesional help and I just need to figure things out myself and I know obviously difficulties always come from time to time but I do need to talk to someone, but who a psychologist or a psychiatrist or a counsellor? And who in particular. My mom was given a few names and they are all too full. I don’t know anyone else. I’m afraid I might do something stupid soon again if I don’t go.

If the people are too full, get names from them… Every person should have atleast 2-3 referrals, and so on… if you just keep calling (and get names from people you call too), you’ll find someone eventually… I dont really have any other ideas. You should probably start with either a psychologist or a couselor (it’s a little tricky, since a psychologist is technically also a counselor, however, a psychologist has a phd in psychology, counseling or a psyd while a counselor has a masters degree in counseling). Psychiatrists have medical degrees and then specialize in psychiatry. They tend to charge twice as much if not more than a psychologist or a counselor.
