How do I explain to my Mom that I want to be vegetarian?

I would like very much to become a vegeterian for 2 reasons. 1) the thought of meat makes me sick 2)i feel sorry about torturing animals. I know that there are other ways to get the protein and other things i need, but I know that if i tell my mom she wont let me. how do i tell her that im for real and convince her to support me?

Answer #1

Your mom’s opinion does not matter. And this should not matter to her in the frst place. If your reasons are valid, and you believe in it, then go for it. If you have enough reason to convince yourself, you have enough to convince anyone else.

Answer #2

Find out what your mom’s objection is. If she doesn’t think eating vegetarian is healthy there are a number of good books by doctors who advocate vegetarian diets to prevent hear dissease, cancer, cronic disseases etc. If you mom is afraid she won’t know how to cook for her you could get a vegetarian cook book and help her try out some recipies (I”m trying out the cookbook Vegan with a Vengence which so far has some good recipies that aren’t too difficult or involved). Some parents think that kids becoming vegetarian are joining a cult or changing religions. If your mom thinks this tell her your personal reasons for not wanting to eat meat.
